The Sample Browser

The drum machine's sound shop. Browse the factory kits, import your own samples, then trim and shape each one before it lands on a lane.

Opening the browser

The sample browser opens from the drum machine in two ways:

• + SAMPLE under the lanes opens it in new-lane mode, to pick a sound for a fresh lane.
• Clicking a lane's sample name opens it on that lane, to swap or reshape the sound it already has.

It floats in its own panel above the main window, so the grid stays visible while you browse. The title bar tells you which mode you are in.

Browsing and searching

The left column lists the factory samples by kit: 808, 909, ACOUSTIC, GLITCH, LO-FI, VAPOR, WORLD, ORCHESTRA and more, each with a count. Click a kit name to fold it open or closed. Anything you have imported sits in its own IMPORTED category at the bottom.

Type in the search field to filter every kit at once. Click a sample to select it, and use the speaker button beside any name to hear it without changing anything.

Selecting a sample fills the right pane with its waveform and controls, and PREVIEW plays it with your current trim and adjustments applied.

Importing your own samples

IMPORT SAMPLES opens a file picker. Select as many audio files as you like; anything that isn't audio is skipped, and a banner reports what was added. Imports land in the IMPORTED category and are available in every project.

To delete an import, right-click it and choose Delete Sample. Select several first with ⌘-click or ⇧-click to delete them together. Factory samples can't be deleted.

Trimming a sample

Drag the two bright handles on the waveform to set where the sample starts and ends. The window is non-destructive: the bars outside it dim, nothing is cut from the file, and you can widen the window again any time.

Releasing a handle auditions the trimmed sound, so you can feel your way to a tight hit.

Pitch, gain, pan and EQ

Two knob sections shape the selected sample:

Right-click any knob to reset it, or click RESET to return the trim and every adjustment to defaults.

New-lane mode vs replace mode

The two modes commit differently:

• New lane (opened from + SAMPLE): browse and shape freely, then click USE SAMPLE. The sample and its adjustments become a new lane, and the browser closes.
• Replace (opened from a lane's name): the browser is live on that lane. Clicking a sample swaps it into the lane immediately, your current trim and adjustments carry over, and every knob tweak writes straight through. A green LIVE badge reminds you there is no separate confirm step.
