Cut, Copy & Paste

One Edit menu works everywhere: clips in the arrangement, a highlighted range, or notes in the piano roll. It always acts on what you have selected.

The Edit menu follows your selection

Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete and Select All act on the focused window.

• In the main window they work on the selected clips, or on the highlighted range if the white band is showing.
• In the piano roll they work on the selected notes. See The Piano Roll.
• While you're typing in a text field, they keep their normal text behavior.

Cut, copy and paste clips

Select one or more clips, then use ⌘X, ⌘C and ⌘V. Cut copies the clips and removes them in one undo step.

Paste drops the clips at the playhead, each on its home track. The earliest clip lands on the beat nearest the playhead and the rest keep their spacing. Every pasted clip is a fully independent copy: edit one and the others don't change.

Paste then moves the playhead to the end of what you pasted. Press ⌘V again and the next copy lands exactly back-to-back, so you can tile a loop across the timeline without touching the playhead. Move the playhead yourself and the chain breaks: the next paste snaps to the beat again.

Cut or copy part of a clip

First highlight a stretch with the Select band: drag along the thin strip above a lane's clips, or across empty lane ground. See Selecting a time range.

⌘C copies the covered stretch as clip slices, each one trimmed to the band. A note that sustains into the slice isn't lost: it re-strikes at the slice's edge, so the copied piece plays what you heard. ⌘X also removes the stretch from the clips and leaves that space empty.

The slices land on the ordinary clipboard, so ⌘V pastes them at the playhead like any other clips.

Select all

⌘A selects every clip on every track. In the piano roll it selects every note in the clip instead.

Undo and Redo

⌘Z undoes, ⇧⌘Z redoes. One undo step covers one whole arrangement action: a drag, a resize, a splice, a delete, a paste, or an ⌥-drag copy together with its move.

The piano roll keeps its own undo history for each clip. Inside the editor window, ⌘Z undoes note edits; back in the main window, it undoes arrangement edits. The two histories never mix, so editing notes can't swallow your arrangement undos.
