Audio Clip Tools

Tools that work on the recorded audio itself: clean a noisy take, pull a loop onto the project's grid, lift the soundtrack out of a movie, and retune a vocal note by note.

Reduce Noise

Hum, hiss and room tone in a take? Right-click the audio clip and choose Reduce Noise.

A panel opens with the clip's waveform and one big STRENGTH dial. The noise floor is learned from the clip automatically, so there is nothing to set up.

  • Press PREVIEW. The clip loops through the track's own effects, and the dial applies live while it plays.
  • Turn STRENGTH up until the noise is gone, and no further.
  • Press REDUCE NOISE to apply. It lands as one undo step, so ⌘Z brings the original back.

Only this clip's audio changes; the rest of the take stays untouched. Closing the panel or pressing CANCEL discards everything unapplied.

Watch For

If another clip plays the same stretch of the take (a duplicate, for example), the panel warns you: that clip will change too.

Sync BPM With Project

Dropped in a loop that doesn't match your tempo? Right-click the audio clip and choose Sync BPM With Project.

NeonDAW estimates the audio's tempo, then time-stretches it to sit on the project grid. Pitch is preserved: the loop keeps its key, only its speed changes. When the two tempos are far apart it picks the sensible half or double, so a 170 BPM breakbeat lands cleanly in an 85 BPM song.

The clip shows a badge while the analysis runs. The whole sync is one undo step, and the original audio is kept, so ⌘Z restores the take exactly as it was.

Note

With a tempo track, "the project's tempo" is read where the clip sits, so the sync matches the music around it.

Extract Audio to Track

Right-click a clip on a video track and choose Extract Audio to Track. The movie's soundtrack lands on an audio track of its own, ready to mix, mute or chop like any other audio. See Video & Scoring.

NeonPitch: pitch correction

NeonPitch is an insert effect with its own editor window. Add it to an audio track's FX chain and open it from the chain. It corrects the track live, and its editor lets you retune the take note by note.

The note editor

NeonPitch listens to the track's take and splits it into notes automatically. When the take changes, it re-analyzes on its own.

  • Drag a note up or down to retune it to another semitone.
  • Drag a note left or right to add drift correction. A light drag straightens sag and slow wander while the vibrato lives; a full drag irons the note dead flat.
  • Hold C and click to cut a note in two.
  • FUSE merges the selected same-pitch neighbours into one held note.
  • Right-click a note to reset it. removes it from correction entirely.
  • -click or right-drag to select several notes. The wheel zooms; -wheel zooms vertically.

The editor has its own undo for note edits: ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z while its window is front. A small transport in the toolbar plays, stops and loops without leaving the editor.

The knobs

ControlWhat it does
KEY & SCALEThe notes correction aims for. Set these first.
RETUNEHow fast a note snaps to pitch. Zero is instant and robotic; higher is slower and more natural.
CORRECTHow strongly notes are pulled to their targets.
HUMANIZEKeeps natural movement, so corrected never means lifeless.
MIXBlends corrected and original. Half-and-half gives a doubled, parallel shine.

Presets

The preset bar runs from HARD TUNE through TIGHT POP, CLASSIC, NATURAL, GENTLE, VIBRATO SAFE and SUBTLE POLISH to PARALLEL SHINE. Presets shape the correction only: your key and scale choice always stays.
